What’s new? : There’s a lot of new ideas that Facebook has come up with-

What does this mean for Snapchat? : It’s hard to say. Snapchat’s user community is already strongly aligned to the app and not so likely to shift. But younger audiences tend to be more fickle and easily swayed – given a more interesting, shinier option, they may find it hard to resist. And this is where Facebook can really hurt Snapchat.

2. Google Revises Gmail Scanning Policy:
What’s this about? : Previously Google used to scan emails of the Gmail account before they hit the inbox prior to delivery.
What’s now? : Emails sent to Gmail accounts won’t be scanned until after they hit users’ inboxes rather than scanning it during the delivery process.
Why this change? : As a lawsuit was filed against Google.The suit claimed that Google changed the terms of service after Dec. 19, 2014, to inform users that data is collected for advertising targeting but did not notify users of the update or ask users to reconfirm their agreement to the updated terms of service and privacy policy.
Takeaways: Google contends scanning is an intrinsic part of its email service, and the only way it can keep Gmail free to users. However this move by google is revolutionary and can also be seen as a way to save its reputation.

3. Facebook fights back on the spread of fake news:
What this about? : News analysis found that top fake election news stories generated more total engagement on Facebook than top election stories from 19 major news outlets combined.
What’s new? : The Social Network has revealed four key measures it’s implementing to limit the reach of misinformation and fake content:
- Easier Reporting
- Flagging stories as disputed
- Informed sharing
- Disrupting financial incentives for spammers
Are they going to remove fake news? : Facebook won’t remove “fake news” or prevent people from sharing it. However, users will see warnings that indicate the story has been disputed by third-party fact-checkers.
Takeaways: This step clearly indicates that Facebook is responding to the call for action, they are taking steps to eliminate fake and misleading news from the conversation, which can only be positive for wider political discourse and debate.

4. Google: AMP Comes To Google Image Search
What’s new? : Google is now showing AMP results in Google Image Search. AMP is clearly growing and growing in importance at google. It is now in the core mobile results.
What’s there for the publisher in using AMP? : The accelerated mobile pages format is that Google will not show a publisher’s actual URL when displaying AMP pages.
Does AMP pages load faster? : Yes Google says so! In fact, using Google’s URL might actually cause AMP pages to load more slowly.
Takeaways: It is interesting that google has come up with AMP but they should’ve also left the choice to publisher. Those who don’t care about the URL that is shown can go with the Google cache and trust that Google says their pages will load more quickly.
